Lent at Church of the Holy Spirit
Lent begins this year on Ash Wednesday, February 25th with two services of Holy Eucharist with the imposition of ashes. The services will be at 12:30 at Griswold Hall and 7:00 at the church. The service includes an “Invitation to a Holy Lent.” If you don’t usually attend this service, why not try it this year? You will find it an inspiring way to begin the most solemn season of the church year.
During Lent, Susan will lead the Stations of the Cross at noon every Friday, beginning on January 27th.
On four Thursdays during Lent, our adult education forum will focus on films. We’ll meet at Griswold Hall at 6:00 and share soup and bread while watching a contemporary film which raises important spiritual or ethical questions. The programs will begin on March 5th. Some movies we’re considering are “Gran Torino,” “Doubt,” and “Common Wealth.” If you have other ideas for films, please share them with Susan. Also if you have a big screen TV, live close to town, and want to volunteer to host a movie evening, let Susan know.
We’re planning something a little different for our Lenten retreat this year, a meditative snowshoe hike, weather permitting, on Saturday, March 7th, from 10:00-12:00 am. Gwynna Smith will lead the walk and meditation. We’ll reconvene back at Griswold Hall for lunch, hot chocolate or tea, and an opportunity to share what we have gleaned from our time outside.
